Meet our Teachers

Mrs. James

Mrs. James has been teaching at Amador Valley High School since 2000. She has taught many different math courses, as well as Introduction to Engineering Design and Civil Engineering and Architecture courses. Previously, she worked as a civil engineer at Carlson, Barbee and Gibson and as an environmental engineer at Rust Environment and Infrastructure. She also taught for five years at Stanley Middle School in Lafayette.

Mr. Dennis

Mr. Dennis is currently the lead teacher of Project Lead the Way at Amador; PLTW is a program that aims to engage students in STEM related curricular activities while developing students into future members of the engineering community. He attended San Jose State University for electrical engineering and has been with the Pleasanton Unified School District for thirteen years. Recently, he was awarded the 'Teacher of the Year' of the school district.

The AV Engineering Club
Engineering Club — In addition to the Project Lead the Way curriculum, The AV Engineering Club meets to enhance and further the teachings outside of the classroom. The Engineering Club meets every Wednesday in Amador's G-1 Engineering Building. From practicing with fun engineering challenges to hearing from guest speakers, the engineering club is perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike! Engineering Courses

Intro to Engineering Design PLTW

The first course tin the PLTW engineering program, available to all four grade levels.

This course is intended to serve as a foundation course within the Project Lead the Way course sequence. Students will learn how to take an idea through a design process that will eventually be manufactured or produced, as well as how to apply various aspects of engineering and engineering design to activities, projects, and problems. This course covers The Role of an Engineer, The Design Process, Product Design, Product Analysis and Improvement, and Designing as an Engineer. Students use Inventor, a state of the art 3-D design software package to help design solutions to different projects.

Intro to Engineering Design PLTWROP

The second course in the project lead the way engineering program, available after completion of the first course.

Students learn to employ critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and engineering concepts in the solution of engineering-design problems. This course follows a proven hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning. Students are given the opportunity to investigate engineering and high-tech careers, as well to apply knowledge of research and design to create solutions to various challenges. Students use industry-recognized 3D modeling software and design, test, and construct device-think machines and robotics.

Civil Engineering and ArchitecturePLTWROP

The third/fourth course in the project lead the way engineering program, available after completion of the first and second courses.

Students of this course learn about various aspects of civil engineering and architecture, apply knowledge to the design and development of residential and commercial properties and structures, and use 3D design software to design and document solutions for major course projects. This is a specialized-level course designed to follow the Project Lead the Way Engineering foundation courses.

Digital ElectronicsPLTWROP

The third/fourth course in the project lead the way engineering program, available after completion of the first and second courses.

This course is designed to introduce students to the process of combinational and sequential logic design, engineering standards, and technical documentation, as well as to expose students to some of the major concepts encountered in a postsecondary engineering course of study in digital electronics.

Computer Integrated ManufacturingPLTWROP

Available to juniors and seniors.

Students learn about the history of manufacturing, robotics and automation, manufacturing processes, computer modeling, manufacturing equipment, and flexible manufacturing systems. This is a specialized-level course designed to follow the Project Lead the Way Engineering foundation courses.

Computer Science & Software EngineeringPLTW

Available to all four grade levels.

Students of this course develop computational thinking, generate excitement about the field of computing, and introduce computational tools that foster creativity. This course builds awareness of tremendous demand for computer specialists in all fields, and engages students to consider issues raised by the present and future societal impact of computing. Students are encouraged to practice problem solving with structured activities and progress to open-ended projects that require planning, documentation, and communication.
